The Irish Way dance group, formed by the students of the Anne Marie Cunningham Dance Academy Bucharest, has over 5 years experience and has taken part in several European competitions and championships. In 2009, the group joined the collaborative project "Stage Fire"(Cracow, Poland), along with 50 dancers from all over Europe. In 2012, Romania was represented for the first time at the World Irish Dance Championship in Belfast, by Sorin Sighinaș, head teacher and choreographer, who also took part in the „Take The Floor” project organized by Riverdance, Dublin. In the summer of 2013, Ştefan Orheanu, the youngest member of the group went to Dublin to join the world record breaking attempt for the longest line of Irish Dancers (also organized by Riverdance).
Irish Way regularly shows up in pubs and traditional art festivals all over Romania, and has produced memorable shows such as the one in Metropolis Theatre (April 2008), „Nae Leonard” Musical Theatre (Galaţi, March 2012) and Irish Dance and Music Gala, Saint Patrick’s Day (March 2013, ArCuB, Bucharest).
The most recent Irish Way project is meant to start from but go beyond the pure Celtic tradition, creating a unique experience of dialogue between traditional Irish technique and various movement languages, all in a contemporary approach. Our dancers will be faced with performers of the Romanian tradition (such as the famous Căluşarii), American tap dancers, flamenco, tango and belly-dancers, in a journey which even Saint Patrick will enjoy.
Just as last year, we must engage a considerable number of performers, which is a „luxury” in the current dance scene. The resources that are needed for the preparation of this project go far beyond the financial power of a non-profit organization such as Irish Way. We believe in the power of crowdfunding and know that only with your help we can bring Irish dancing in Romania to the next level.
One fine body…
